Petra Diamonds has recovered a rare Type IIb gem quality blue diamond at the Cullinan Diamond Mine using Bourevestnik X-ray luminescence technology.
Recent recovery has proved yet again the reliable recovery of all types of diamonds by Bourevestnik X-ray sorters.
The most rare crystal type IIb blue color 20.08 crt was recovered on 23rd September at the Cullinan Diamond Mine.
The recovery demonstrates that the Cullinan orebody remains the world’s most reliable source of very rare blue stones and the ability of the mine's plant to recover the full spectrum of diamonds.
The Large Diamond Recovery Plant at the Cullinan Diamond Mine uses Bourevestnik X-ray luminescence sorters – ten machines are currently in operation allowing the processing of -75mm +8mm mill-product material directly via X-ray sorters without the application of Dense Media Separation. The above Type II stone was recovered using Bourevestnik LS-20-05-NL high-throughput X-ray luminescence primary sorter and an LS-OD-50-04-03 X-ray luminescence reconcentration sorter.
