Recovery of unique diamond of more than 190 carats weight at Udachnaya kimberlite pipe was possible because of the application of Bourevestnik X-ray sorters.
ALROSA announced the extraction of gemstone with dimensions of 40x31x20 mm and a weight of 191.46 carats at the processing plant №12 of Udachny mining and processing division in mid-January 2019. Since the start of mining operations at 1967, Bourevestnik sorters are successfully operating at the recovery plant. At present, more than 90 Bourevestnik machines are used at every recovery stage: from primary down to final concentrate retreatment.
This unique diamond was recovered with X-ray luminescence sorters LS-20-05N at primary recovery and with LS-50-05 during concentrate retreatment.
The recovery of extra-large diamonds by ALROSA proves high efficiency of Bourevestnik X-ray luminescence technology and gives confidence of its future successful application for new recoveries of unique diamonds.
